What Counts
as a ‘Family’ Policy?

“Family” doesn’t always mean two parents and two kids, and your policy shouldn’t
expect it to. Gigasure’s Family Cover is designed for today’s families. You can insure
you and any of your family who live together at the same address.

At Gigasure, family means you, your partner, and the children, stepchildren, adopted children or foster children,
parents, parents-in-law, step-parents or legal guardian, grandparent, grandchild or step-grandchild, sibling,
half-sibling or step-sibling, Fiancée, aunt, uncle, cousin, nephew or niece, of either of you.

We provide cover for children who are insured persons if they are:

a. Travelling with an insured person who is 18 or over; or

b. Travelling with the permission of their parent or legal guardian:

  • On an organised school or college trip, an educational,
vocational study or cultural exchange trip, or to
undertake conservation or charity work on a voluntary
basis that is covered under Standard Sports and
    Activities; or
  • With a responsible adult on a leisure trip.

One Policy vs Separate Policies

A family policy is usually more affordable and much more convenient
than insuring everyone separately.

Why families choose one policy:

  • Kids go free with some plans
  • One point of contact for claims and emergencies
  • Shared excess = fewer fees if you claim
  • Manage everything in one place via the Gigasure app

When separate might work better:

  • Separate policies might work better if one or more members require cover for high-risk activities

How Much Does Family Cover Cost?

The cost of annual family travel insurance varies depending on your destination, trip length,
and travellers’ ages. Here’s a rough guide. This is a rough price for policies without any
medical conditions disclosed and includes standard policy benefits.

Destination Typical Annual Cost
(2 adults + 2 kids)
UK-only  £28–£50
Europe £60–£131
Worldwide (excl. USA) £130–£280
Worldwide (incl. USA) £198–£430

Tip: A single trip policy may be cheaper for a one-off holiday, but annual policies usually pay off
from the second trip onward.

What Affects Your Premium?

Your quote is based on a few key factors:

  • Destination (USA, for example, = higher premiums)
  • Trip duration if opting for a single trip policy
  • Ages of all travellers
  • Number of people covered
  • Pre-existing medical conditions
  • Activities you plan to do (but note that not all activities will be covered in your policy)
  • Excess level you choose (higher excess = lower premium)
  • The level of cover you require – Core, Pro and Max plans that have different levels of core from the lowest to the highest we offer

GHIC/EHIC: Why They're Not Enough

The GHIC (or the old EHIC) lets you access state healthcare in Europe
but that doesn’t mean it’s a replacement for insurance.

Here’s why:

  • No repatriation cover (getting you back to your home
    base)

  • Does not cover trip cancellations, baggage, or delays

Each family member needs their own GHIC card. Visit the
official NHS GHIC page
for more information on the GHIC.

When Should You Buy?

It can be a good idea to buy as soon as you book because
unfortunately, cancellations can happen before you even pack.

Early cover protects:

  • Flights
  • Prepaid accommodation
  • Excursions and activities
  • Non-refundable deposits
