When should I buy my travel insurance?

Travel insurance covers more than just emergency medical expenses and depending on the policy you purchase it may also include benefits which start to provide before your leave on your trip, like if you have to unexpectedly cancel your trip due to illness. Unfortunately if you have already left home to start your trip it is too late to buy travel insurance.
If you are purchasing Gigasure Single Trip Insurance, the start date of your policy should be the day you leave home to start your trip and the end date the day you will return home from your trip. If your policy includes Cancellation Benefits, this cover will start on the day you buy your policy or book your trip, whichever is later.
If you are purchasing Gigasure Annual Multi-trip Insurance, all cover begins on the date you choose to start your policy. If you want Cancellation Benefits cover to start straight away, you should choose the start date to be the date you purchase your policy.

Do I have to be a UK resident to buy a policy?

You and all additional travellers must be in the UK when the policy is purchased, and registered with a doctor in the UK.
