Before starting your claim 

Before initiating your claim, ensure you have all the necessary documents and information handy. If you're using the Gigasure app, your policy details will be instantly available upon login. For those submitting via the website, having your policy documents on hand will help streamline the process.  Our best advice is to create a folder on your computer and save all your PDFs or JPEGs in one place to have an easy time uploading your supporting documents. 

Gather Evidence and Report Incidents 

Before starting the claims process, ensure you have the following documents ready depending on your claim type: 

Car or Van Hire Excess Claims

  • Mandatory Documents: Car hire rental agreement, debit or credit card statement, driving licence. 
  • Other non-mandatory Supporting Documents: Relevant invoices and receipts, police report, damage report.

Submitting your claim 

Submitting a car hire excess claim with Gigasure is simple, but knowing the precise steps can make the process even easier. This guide walks you through each stage to help ensure a successful claim. 

Step 1: Find your policy 

The first step in the claims process is to locate your policy in the Gigasure system and verify your identity. This essential step sets your claim in motion and ensures it is recorded accurately.

Go to the ‘My Policy’ section and select the Car Hire Excess policy you want to claim against. Tap ‘Manage my Policy,’ and then select ‘Make a Claim’ and continue with the process.

To submit a claim on the Gigasure website, go to the claims page and follow the step-by-step instructions. Begin by locating your policy and confirming that the details match your original booking. This helps ensure a quick and seamless verification process with minimal delays. 

For data protection, you’ll need to verify your identity by providing your date of birth and home address. This security step helps ensure that only authorised individuals can access sensitive policy information. Once your identity is verified, you’ll be able to access the claims form and proceed. 

If you have multiple Car Hire Excess policies with Gigasure, you'll need to select the policy you wish to claim on and ensure all the details are correct.

Step 2: Specify Car Hire Details 

For Car Hire Excess Insurance you will need to provide additional details, including: 

  • Hire Agreement Details: Start and end date of the vehicle hire, purpose of the hire, vehicle hire company name, hire pick-up country, city, and address, as well as the pick-up location type. 
  • Vehicle Details: Vehicle type, category, make, model, fuel type, transmission type, number of seats, and vehicle registration number. 


Step 3: Provide additional Information about the claim

Car Hire Excess claim specifics: For Car Hire Excess claims, please provide the following information: 

  • Description of Claim: Provide a detailed description of what happened (up to 500 characters), including the date and location of the incident. The sequence of events leading up to the incident, the type of road and who was driving (for example, was it the policyholder, or a person not named on the rental agreement of if the car was unattended). 
  • Claim amount: Provide the total claim amount as well as more information about the claim. 
  • Terms of Vehicle Hire Agreement: Indicate whether the hire vehicle was used in accordance with the terms of the hire agreement. 
  • Type of Road and Responsibility: Specify the type of road where the incident occurred and indicate who was responsible for the incident. If a third party was involved, provide an explanation. 
  • Police Report and Inspection Details: Note whether you have a police report, whether an attendant inspected the vehicle at drop-off, and whether you have been informed of any damage by the vehicle hire company.

Upload copies of your full rental agreement showing the excess charge amount, vehicle check-out and check-in reports confirming the vehicle’s condition before and after hire 

Evidence of Loss or Incident: Provide documentation that substantiates your claim. This may include: 

  • Photos of any damage to the vehicle 
  • Police report (if applicable) 
  • Rental company accident report or other official report of the incident 
  • Witness statements (if available) 
  • An invoice showing the excess charge 
  • Proof of payment, such as a bank statement or receipt 
  • Credit card statement showing the excess charge amount 
  • Any repair estimates or bills from the car hire company 

Note: Please upload your documents, ensuring the total size does not exceed 10MB. Look out for any items marked with an asterisk (*)—they’re compulsory. Accepted file formats include: jpg, jpeg, pdf, gif, bmp, png, webp, tiff, doc, and docx. 

Step 5: Fill Recipient’s Details 

Enter the bank details of the person who will receive the claim payment. Review the declaration section, confirm that all information provided is accurate, and then click “Submit.” 

Once your claim is submitted, Gigasure will provide a claims reference number. Keep this number safe, as it allows you to: 

  • Upload additional documents if required 
  • Provide clarifications if requested by the claims team 
  • Contact the claims team for updates on your case

  • Act quickly: It is always best to do it as soon as possible 
  • Keep documentation safe: Keep copies of all travel-related documents, receipts, and correspondence that might be needed to support your claim. 
  • Read your policy documents: Understand what is covered and what isn’t before filing your claim. For example, claims involving reckless behaviour or activities under the influence of alcohol are typically not covered.
