Gigasure’s customisable Backpackers policy comes with Global Search and Rescue, Back to Base cover and post-purchase Boosts to cover spontaneous activities
Gigasure, the innovative travel insurance provider, launches Backpacker insurance with customisable benefits including Search and Rescue and Back to Base cover.
Gigasure’s Backpacker Travel Insurance is designed for adventurers embarking on extended trips, exploring multiple destinations, and diving into thrilling activities like hiking, scuba diving, and more. Tailored to meet the unique needs of adventure-driven travellers, Gigasure is redefining backpacker insurance by offering coverage that keeps up with the spontaneity and excitement of globe-trotting adventures.
This product offers two plans to choose from—Core and Max—both of which can be customised post-purchase using Gigasure’s app feature, Boost. Through the app, travellers can add permanent Boosts, which remain valid for the entire duration of their Backpacker policy. For those spur-of-the-moment adventures, temporary Boosts are also available, allowing travellers to add coverage for activities like golf, skiing, adventure sports, or cruise cover. This flexible functionality saves backpackers money by letting them pay only for the coverage they need, when they need it, rather than for the entire policy duration.
Additionally, Gigasure offers a unique Back to Base benefit, allowing travellers to return home up to three times during their backpacking journey—perfect for reconnecting with family without losing the essence of adventure. With coverage for trips lasting up to 13 months, Gigasure’s Backpacker policy is designed to support every step of the travellers experience.
Gigasure Max policyholders enjoy an added layer of protection with Search and Rescue cover as standard, offering unparalleled peace of mind during their travels. In the event of a life-threatening situation—such as getting lost in the wilderness or experiencing a serious accident in a remote location—this benefit helps cover the costs of deploying professional search and rescue teams to locate and assist the traveller.
This extra level of support not only reassures the policyholder but also provides comfort to their family and friends, knowing that expert help is just a call away in case of an emergency while exploring the world.
Gigasure’s Backpacker Policy features GigaShield Flight and Baggage Delay, a real-time cash benefit designed to keep travels stress-free. This innovative feature offers cash payouts or vouchers for airport lounge access if a flight is delayed by more than three hours, as well as cash payments for delayed baggage to cover essential items quickly and conveniently.
To further simplify the experience, Gigasure has created a streamlined claims process to eliminate unnecessary hassle while travelling. With the Gigasure app, claims forms are pre-populated, allowing travellers to submit claims in just a few clicks — saving time, reducing stress, and letting them focus on the adventure ahead.
Ernesto Suarez, CEO, Gigasure: “Going backpacking or away on a gap year is exciting and travellers will be looking forward to having lots of new experiences and adventures. No one wants to think about something bad happening, but travellers want to know that if they need assistance while abroad, they are covered. This is why we have created this unique backpacker policy, to provide reassurance that should the worst happen, Gigasure is there to support the traveller in various ways.
“We want backpackers to embrace everything their travels have to offer, which includes the ability to be spontaneous. We’ve added the Boost function to cover these unique opportunities so that travellers can quickly accesso the app and add the cover they need instantly with just a couple of clicks. A policy that fits in with them, not the other way around.
“Our policy has been designed with the backpacker in mind, but also for parents and loved ones back home who will want the peace of mind of knowing that their child is covered, particularly when it comes to their whereabouts and wellbeing. We created the Search and Rescue offer so we can provide the assistance required on the ground when they are potentially thousands of miles away.”
