About Ernesto
Ernesto Suarez is the Founder and CEO of Gigasure and an insurance executive and serial entrepreneur with extensive experience building and transforming insurance businesses across Europe, the US and Latin America. He has more than two decades of experience across insurance, personal lines underwriting, product innovation, relationship management, client servicing and digital marketing.
Ernesto founded Gigasure as his second insurance venture, creating an InsurTech business focused on improving the insurance experience by putting customers at the centre. Gigasure offers Travel, Backpackers and Car Hire Excess insurance through a digital platform that allows customers to customise their cover by adding or removing benefits to suit their individual needs and budgets.
Before founding Gigasure, Ernesto built Halo Insurance from the ground up and successfully raised venture capital funding to support its growth. Halo was subsequently acquired by Zurich Insurance Group / Cover-More Group in 2017, and Ernesto later exited the business in 2021 alongside other management shareholders.
Ernesto has also held senior positions at AIG in the UK, including Vice President of Personal Lines, where he managed with delegated underwriting authority. His combination of insurance leadership, underwriting experience and entrepreneurship has given him extensive expertise in specialist insurance, particularly travel and car hire insurance.
Outside of his work in insurance and entrepreneurship, Ernesto is a keen long-distance runner. In March 2023, he completed the six Abbott World Marathon Majors, earning the Abbott Six Star Medal after running the New York, Berlin, London, Chicago, Boston and Tokyo marathons. He completed his seventh major marathon in Sydney in 2025.
